Key Member Spotlight: Grace Powell

Meet one of our youngest Key Members, Grace Powell! Grace joined The Key, our group of monthly donors, and helped us reach our goal of 100 Key Members in 2021! Grace continues to give monthly and inspires us with her generosity and the impact she is making in our community, even as a student! We reached out to Grace to learn more about her and why she is committed to our mission to end homelessness.

MIRIAM’S HOUSE (MH): TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOURSELF!

Grace: My name is Grace, and I’m a senior in the social work program at Liberty University! I was born and raised in Gainesville, Florida before moving to Lynchburg in 2019—and this city has brought me the strongest community I’ve ever known. Not to mention the most beautiful mountain views! I’m incredibly passionate about all things mental health, intentional relationships, advocacy & policy development, and local outreach.

MH: THERE ARE SO MANY GREAT NONPROFITS IN THE COMMUNITY. TELL US WHAT MADE YOU CHOOSE TO SUPPORT MIRIAM’S HOUSE?

Grace: Miriam’s House stood out to me as an organization I wanted to support because of the tangible ways they impact people’s lives who are affected by homelessness. Miriam’s House reaches people right where they are and establishes effective and sustainable solutions.

MH: WHY DO YOU CHOOSE TO GIVE MONTHLY?

Grace: I choose to give monthly because I believe this long-term investment in the community opens paths that help change people’s lives as their needs arise.

MH: ANYTHING ELSE YOU WOULD LIKE TO SHARE WITH THE BROADER COMMUNITY TO INSPIRE THEM TO JOIN THE KEY?

Grace: This program has increased my passion for ending homelessness in Lynchburg, as well as addressing the roots that I can be a part of changing as a future social worker. Local outreach and endeavors to decrease the occurrence of homelessness have been a passion of mine for a few years, so the opportunity to be a Key Member struck me as an incredible way to be a part of this goal.

WHEN NOT HELPING TO END HOMELESSNESS IN LYNCHBURG, I CAN BE FOUND:

Grace: Behind a camera lens, on a nature trail, at a local coffee shop, finding the best sunset-watching spot, or doing art.

Members of The Key, like Grace, have committed to financially supporting Miriam’s House through a donation amount of their choosing. This sustaining support ensures that hundreds of homeless families and individuals are given not only the physical key of a home but keys to independence, opportunity, and safety through the work of Miriam’s House.

Grace and this transformative group of givers are empowering individuals and unlocking homes and hopes for our most vulnerable neighbors, and we are so grateful.

YOU CAN BE THE KEY TO ENDING HOMELESSNESS TODAY. JOIN US.
