The Playhouse

In 2001 The Playhouse, an on-site daycare facility located in Miriam’s House, opened to provide Miriam’s House residents access to safe, convenient and affordable child care.

In 2005, The Playhouse opened childcare slots to other homeless programs in the Central Virginia community. This allows more homeless mothers to apply for employment, seek benefits and attend to medical needs without their children in tow. This helps other homeless women throughout the community to find employment in order to pay debts and save money for housing.

In April 2009, the Board of Directors had to make the very difficult decision to close the Playhouse.  Like many other non profit organizations, Miriam's House is facing a challenging financial climate.  The Board has taken steps to ensure the future of Miriam's House by making the best use of our funding.
