Spotlight on a Team Member: Leah Wiebe
Leah Wiebe is our Director of Administration & Community Engagement and has been with us since July 2017. Before joining Miriam’s House, Leah worked in event planning and marketing. She has a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a Master’s degree in Human Services. Over the past six years, Leah has been an integral part of Miriam’s House’s growth, and we are always grateful for her incredible attention to detail and creativity. Our team is the backbone of our work at Miriam’s House and we wanted our supporters to have the opportunity to learn more about Leah!
Miriam’s House (MH): How do you normally describe the work of Miriam’s House and your role in it?
Leah: I love that our mission is so straightforward—Miriam’s House exists to end homelessness and rebuild lives. And I love that I get to invite our community into this work with us, to partner with us in ensuring that ours is a community that cares for those facing the crisis and trauma of homelessness. It is such a joy to see our supporters come together—bringing to the table whatever resources they have to offer—to help us make certain that everyone has a safe place to call home.
As part of a small non-profit, there are many facets to my role and often each day looks different. Whether I’m creating marketing materials, providing operational support to our organization, planning fundraising events, managing volunteers, or sharing our gratefulness with our supporters, I get to be a cheerleader for our work and a support to our team. I love that I get to problem-solve, be resourceful and creative, and help propel our mission forward each day.
MH: There are so many great places to work in the Lynchburg area. What made you decide to work at MH and what has kept you for over 6 years?
Leah: The work of Miriam’s House is so crucial and impactful. It is an amazing opportunity to work for an organization with board and staff leadership that I respect, where I feel valued, supported, and challenged, and where I know what I do each day is making a difference in our community.
MH: What’s the best thing about your job?
Leah: I am so proud to be part of such an incredible team—it truly is a dream team. My colleagues encourage, challenge, and inspire me every day!
MH: When not working to end homelessness, what can you be found doing?
Leah: Trying to keep up with my 4 kids, doing a crossword puzzle, supporting local theater, or finding an excuse to get outside and enjoy the beauty of Central Virginia with my family!
